 FOOD DRIVE A BIG SUCCESS

Thanks to Chairman Sue Caplan and DeAnn Barto flyer distribution Chairman, the Food Drive produced an abundance of necessities for North Fulton Community Charities. The Charity Guild gals who worked at NFCC on Mon. July 26 filled their cars to the brim with deliveries. Thank you neighbors and thank you Gatehouse personnel for your support.

FUN AND FASHION

YEAR END MEETING A BEAUTY!

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

JoAnn Sullivan was announced Volunteer of the Year for 2009-2010 by vote of the membersip.  JoAnn, member chairman, has doubled the membership this year.  In addition she was instrumental in chairing the successful "Texas Hold'em", hosting the Christmas party and working tirelessly on the Wine & Cheese party to increase membership in the Charity Guild.

In her year end report Maureen Cleveland reported that the Charity Guild had not only doubled its membership, doubled its income, but also was able to double its giving.  In Maureen’s own words:

In this, the first year of our board’s term, we have given $15,000 to North Fulton Community Charities, $6,000 to CHRIS Kids, which will value over $9,000 due to a three times matching grant, and to STAR House we gave $4,000, which will be a $6,000 value to them, also because of a matching grant.  We gave the Assistance League of Atlanta $2,000 - $1,000 more than our pledge to them, we sent $1,000 to Haiti relief, AND we adopted a new charity, the Mary Hall Freedom House, and gave them an initial cash donation. All in all, Charity Guild of St Ives has raised and given nearly $30,000 in cash to our charities in just nine months! And this does not even take into account the tens of thousands of dollars, over thirty thousand, we have given in in-kind contributions! And so, I am so very pleased to report that we have met our third goal of doubling our donations.”

JOHNS CREEK FIRE DEPT. GIVES CPR CLASS

On June 15 the Charity Guild partnered with the JCFD in offering The American Heart Association’s Family and Friends CPR Anytime course. Participants received instruction in the newest approved method for CPR. In addition the Automated Emergency Defibrilator was demonstrated for use with those experiencing heart arythmia. The session was organized by JoAnn Sullivan, R.N., Charity Guild VP of Membership.

Members of the St Ives Charity Guild and friends have been knitting baby caps for the project “Wee Help” which assembles layettes for the 8 area hospitals 3 times a year down at the League’s headquarters in Chamblee. One friend of the Guild, Beverly Moore, has knit over 100 caps since September. GIVE SOME OF YOUR TIME

Usually on the 4th Monday of the month a group of Charity Guild members and other friends drive to NFCC to help in their FOOD PANTRY or THRIFT SHOP. Lots of help is needed in sorting food deliveries and bagging meals for people. Especially this year, with the high rate of unemployment, over 150 families a day receive food. If you would like to join us email Rosemary White (rowhite1020@bellsouth.net ).
